Programmatic Density. The competition brief asked for a mixed-use program in the central zone of the town of Velika Gorica. Apart from the public program that was to occupy the main-street buildings, the brief asked for a public garage, shops, of ces, and apartments.
Challenging Density.
How can such a large program of 20 000 sqm fit into an almost suburban structure without interfering with small and simple local architecture?
The Experiment
The concept proposed to experiment with local typologies. A smooth gradation from the public to private allows the user different experiences and uses of space: from a public park, over communal gardens and resident’s terraces, to private semi-enclosed entrances and finally to apartments. The same building typology is applied to all programs.
