Rivers Estuary
The project was done in collaboration with “Grupo Aranea”, award-winning of ce from Spain. In 2013 the City of Rijeka announced a public competition for it ́s most signi cant leftover void in the urban tissue, a land on the river ́s estuary called Delta. The brief asked for 300.000 m2 of new mixed use development: housing, business, public buildings.
City’s Natural Setting.
Although nature regularly reminds us of its condition, at the river’s estuary, it has been ignored for a while. It seems that in Rijeka, the city’s natural setting continuously generates problems, rather than being overturned into the city’s advantage.
Responding to Nature
It seems that the question of nature in Rijeka is the one that requires a response; we like the idea of nature setting its own rules, with water as the main protagonist. Our proposal stems from an inclination to give appropriate attention to geographic conditions speci c to this strategic space.
