Hotel

The Context
A 70 unit luxury hotel in a mega yacht marina. Architectural solution by prof. Nikola Basic, a renowned Croatian architect. The Mediterranean context of low-tech building with concrete, wood, vivid colors and contrasting textures.
Design Principles
How to reinterpret the local context but remain contemporary and not slip into the usual vocabulary of global architecture typical for this type of investment?

Bring the Design to Life
Exposed concrete used on the building facade flows into the interior. A contrasting texture of oak wood covers the walls and ceilings. A play of vivid colours on textiles and furniture adds life to white exposed concrete walls. Site specific artistic installations blend with the architecture and interior design forming a unity that draws inspiration from local Modern Yugoslav era hotels.

Yacht Club

Programmatic Diversity
A technologically challenging 2000 sqm building with a diverse program: a restaurant, wellness, and a conference hall. The architecture called for a close relationship between the interior and exterior spaces.
Visual Unity
How to connect the diverse programs visually and how to establish a relationship with the exterior spaces.
The Unifying Element
A wooden shell/ceiling that  flows out to the walls of the porch connects all interior spaces from conference hall to wellness area. Stone flooring on the porch enters the interior. The rest of the spaces is organised by moveable wooden and glass partitions. The sound of water echoes in the cave-like space.
